Description

[LINCOLN, Abraham (1809-1865)]. WENDEROTH & TAYLOR, photographers. 2 CDVs of Lincoln. Philadelphia, February or March 1864.

2 CDVs on cardstock mounts, each showing slightly different images of Lincoln taken at the White House in Washington, DC, by Wenderoth & Taylor, Philadelphia, PA, sometime in 1864. The first is an oval variant of the portrait catalogued by Ostendorf as O-95, verso with Wenderoth & Taylor's imprint and 2-cent US internal revenue stamp. -- The second portrait, catalogued as O-96, includes the verso imprint of the Philadelphia Photographic Co. Ostendorf notes that the "wrong-side" part in Lincoln's hair more conclusively dates the portrait to February or March of 1864 (pp. 184-185). -- Together, 2 CDVs.
